Cheapest Domains in Kenya

.CO.KE for KSh 999 | .COM for KSh 999

Safaricom can register a domain, host a website and collect payment through M-PESA. That combination works for a customer who wants several business services under a familiar Kenyan brand.

It is not your only option.

I reviewed current registrar listings from KeNIC, the official pages of Safaricom and seven alternatives, public domain prices, transfer terms and domain-management features.

For most Kenyan small businesses, Truehost is the best overall Safaricom Domains alternative with cheapest domain registration and renewal prices.

Other providers earn a place for different reasons.

HOSTAFRICA has a broad regional operation. Hostraha presents a particularly clear domain feature set. HostPinnacle makes sense when a hosting bundle matters more than a standalone domain. Webhost Kenya and Hostnali publish simple annual pricing, while Novahost gives local buyers another KeNIC-listed route.

Date note: This 2027 buyer’s guide uses plans and public prices checked on 30 July 2026. A promotion may end before you buy. Confirm the registration, renewal, transfer, tax and add-on totals in the live cart.

Truehost’s prices on this list, however, are dynamic, so always up-to-date:

Safaricom remains a credible registrar, but specialist alternatives offer more choice

Safaricom’s current domain portal supports new registrations, transfers, shared hosting, SSL certificates, support tickets and account management. Its registration workflow accepts M-PESA, and customers can manage domains and services through the client area.

The public portal listed .co.ke registration and renewal at KSh 1,160 when I checked it. Safaricom also separates domain registration from hosting in its terms, even though customers can buy the two together.

That baseline matters. An alternative should not win merely because its first-year banner shows a smaller number. It should give you a better combination of:

  • a clear renewal cost;

  • KeNIC recognition when you need a .ke domain;

  • access to nameservers and DNS records;

  • a workable transfer process;

  • accurate registrant ownership details;

  • support you can reach before an expiry becomes an emergency; and

  • a sensible way to add hosting or email without trapping the domain.

If you need more background on the incumbent service before comparing it, our guide to Safaricom domain registration covers its ordering process. We also have a separate review of Safaricom domain and hosting services for readers comparing the full bundle rather than the registrar alone.

How I ranked the seven alternatives

KeNIC maintains Kenya’s .ke registry and publishes a list of licensed registrars. I started there, then checked the current official product and terms pages for each provider.

The ranking uses five decision factors:

  1. Registrar standing. KeNIC listing or recognition carries more weight than an unsupported accreditation badge.

  2. Whole-term cost. Registration, renewal and transfer prices matter more than a promotional first year alone.

  3. Domain control. You should be able to manage nameservers, DNS records, renewal settings and transfer requests.

  4. Kenyan buying fit. KES billing, M-PESA and reachable local support reduce friction for a Kenyan customer.

  5. Product fit. A domain-only buyer, a first-time website owner and an agency managing many domains need different things.

This is a buyer-fit ranking, not a laboratory test of DNS speed or support response time. I did not award points for an uptime claim, review score or “instant” promise that I could not independently test.

Before choosing any registrar, use our detailed domain registrar checklist to inspect renewal rules, registrant access, security and support.

The seven strongest Safaricom Domains alternatives at a glance

Provider

Best fit

Public .co.ke price snapshot

Main watch-out

Truehost

Best overall balance for Kenyan businesses

Register KSh 999; renew KSh 1,200

Optional services change the checkout total

Hostraha

Clear domain tools and published renewal pricing

KSh 999 registration; KSh 1,349 renewal

Confirm which extensions qualify for advertised privacy

HOSTAFRICA

Regional provider with a mature Kenya operation

KSh 999 registration; KSh 2,350 renewal

Renewal is much higher than the first-year price

Hostnali

Local domain management and straightforward annual pricing

KSh 1,300 registration and renewal

Confirm the currency and tax shown in your account

Webhost Kenya

Buyers who prefer the same published price at renewal

KSh 1,740 registration and renewal

Its public page mixes current tables with older promotional copy

HostPinnacle

Domain plus hosting bundles

KSh 350 headline domain price

The public homepage does not show a matching renewal table

Novahost

Local domain-and-hosting setup

KSh 1,160 in the headline; KSh 1,180 on the same page

Resolve that price difference and ask for the renewal rate before paying

The table records what the providers published, not a promise that checkout will show the same amount in 2027. Where a provider did not expose a comparable renewal figure, I have not invented one.

1) Truehost gives most Kenyan buyers the strongest overall package

Truehost domains, ai websites and hosting

Truehost ranks first because the buying decision remains clear after the promotional price.

Here’s why over 100,000 customers choose us over HostAfrica, Safaricom, and HostPinnacle for their domains management:

  • Oneclick push to Cloudflare when you need it

  • Easy to use management dashboard where you can lock, unlock your domain, manage nameservers, retrieve your transfer EPP Code, add free addon services etc

  • Free Email forwarding

  • Free business emails when you buy select TLDs

  • Easy approach to using your domains (now launch an online shop or a website connected to your domain using AI)

Not to mention Truehost offers the best registration prices and renewal prices. For instance, you can get a .com domain for just KSh 999 or renew .co.ke domain for just KSh 1,200 unlike the competitors that charge over 2500

Oh, our domain search is now instant so come to our tool even when you are not planning to register with us. Check domain availability on the go. ☺

You can search hundreds of extensions, manage DNS, add hosting or business email, and pay through locally relevant methods including M-Pesa.

KeNIC lists Truehost Cloud Limited among licensed domain registrars.

KeNIC’s 2024 published awards provide useful independent context.

Truehost receives best domain registrar award ffrom Kenic
Truehost receives best domain registrar award ffrom Kenic

They name Truehost as Registrar of the Year and place us first for customer retention and domain registrations in the results displayed for the year. Those awards do not guarantee that every support case will be perfect, but they give the ranking more substance than our own marketing claims.

Best for: A Kenyan business that wants transparent domain lifecycle costs, local extensions and one account for related website services including:

Control and extras: Our public domain pages describe DNS management, domain search, transfers and optional privacy protection. You can keep the domain with us while pointing it to another host, so buying a domain does not force you to move the website.

You can search and register a domain with us or check a name before deciding whether to transfer an existing Safaricom domain.

2) Hostraha

Hostraha takes second place because its current domain page makes the recurring decision relatively easy to inspect.

It listed .co.ke at KSh 999 for registration, KSh 1,349 for renewal and KSh 999 for transfer when checked.

The same page advertises DNS management, forwarding, domain lock, auto-renewal and privacy for eligible domains. That is a more useful public specification than a page that shows only a first-year offer.

KeNIC’s published awards identify Hostraha as New Registrar of the Year in the 2024 results. This makes it a newer choice than several long-established providers, but it also gives the company independent registry recognition.

Best for: A buyer who wants to see the renewal price and core management tools before creating an account.

The limitation: “Free WHOIS privacy” does not mean every registry permits the same privacy treatment. Ask whether your exact extension qualifies, especially for a Kenyan country-code domain.

Hostraha’s terms also allow price changes to take effect at renewal.

Hostraha would move down the list if its published renewal table disappeared or if checkout added material charges that the product page did not disclose.

3) HOSTAFRICA suits buyers who value regional scale

hostafrica

HOSTAFRICA’s Kenya operation combines a licensed local registrar presence with a larger regional hosting business.

Its official .co.ke page lists free DNS hosting and nameserver management, so a domain-only customer can point the name to another hosting provider.

The company has also expanded through acquisitions. HOSTAFRICA acquired SasaHost effective 1 December 2023 and later integrated hosting assets from deepAfrica, including HostPoa and JijiHost.

That is why this ranking does not pretend SasaHost and deepAfrica are separate current alternatives.

Best for: A customer who wants a regional hosting company with a Kenya operation and a broad product range.

Price position: The .co.ke domain renewal at HostAfrica sits as Kshs 2,350 making it one of the cheapest domain renewal providers on this list. So if you renew for 5 years, you will pay 2350 x 5 = 11,750

With Truehost current renewal rates at just KSh 1,200 you could be saving nearly 50% by simply registering with the right company, right?

safaricom alternatives hostafrica co-ke-domain renwal prices
This interface displays options for domain renewal management.

The limitation: The registration price makes HOSTAFRICA look close to the cheapest options, but the renewal price changes the long-term comparison.

Over five years, renewal contributes more to your cost than the introductory discount.

HOSTAFRICA remains a good safaricom alternative. It simply needs a buyer who values its operating footprint enough to accept the published renewal rate.

4) Hostnali combines local registry standing with simple public pricing

Hostnali

Hostnali’s public domain cart listed .co.ke registration, transfer and renewal at KSh 999 for one year when checked. That symmetry makes the second-year cost easier to understand.

Renewal is at Kshs 1500.

KeNIC lists Hostnali Webhost Limited among licensed registrars. The registry’s published 2024 results also name Hostnali as the regional registrar award winner. Hostnali’s own terms describe automatic renewal settings, domain locking and transfer restrictions for recently registered or transferred domains.

Best for: A Kenyan customer or agency that wants a local registrar with domain, hosting and reseller services.

The limitation: Hostnali’s client portal can display different currencies. Confirm that the account and cart both show KES, then check whether tax changes the final amount. Its terms also place responsibility for timely renewal on the customer even when reminder systems exist.

Hostnali ranks below HOSTAFRICA because its public information is spread between the cart, documentation and terms rather than one polished decision page. The underlying domain details are still more complete than a headline price alone.

5) Webhost Kenya is easy to budget when the published table applies

webhost kenya

Webhost Kenya’s domain page listed .co.ke registration, renewal and transfer at KSh 1,740 each.

A buyer may pay more in year one than with several higher-ranked alternatives, but the same published renewal price removes the sharp promotional jump seen elsewhere.

KeNIC includes Webhost Kenya on its licensed registrar list. The provider also publishes prices for local extensions such as .or.ke, .ac.ke, .me.ke, .info.ke and .sc.ke, alongside international choices.

Best for: A buyer who prefers a flat, visible annual price over chasing the lowest introductory promotion.

The limitation: The page contains an up-to-date-looking price table but also carries older copy, including a lower “from” amount and a 2025 copyright notice. Use the structured price row as a starting point, then confirm the live cart.

Webhost Kenya earns a middle position because its pricing is straightforward, not because it is the cheapest.

6) HostPinnacle is strongest when you also need hosting

Various domain offers from HostPinnacle including prices in Ksh
Explore various domain options and pricing available.

HostPinnacle’s homepage promotes low domain prices and includes a domain with several hosting packages.

Its hosting plans also advertise SSL, email accounts, control-panel access and website tools, which makes the company more attractive to a customer buying a complete website setup.

KeNIC lists HostPinnacle Cloud Limited as a licensed registrar. KeNIC’s published awards also recognise HostPinnacle in earlier growth and regional categories.

Best for: A first-time website owner who wants a domain bundled into an annual hosting plan.

Price position: The official homepage displayed .co.ke at KSh 350 per year on the research date. HostPinnacle’s terms discuss promotional domain conditions, but the public homepage did not expose a registration-renewal-transfer table comparable to Truehost, HOSTAFRICA, Hostnali or Webhost Kenya.

The limitation: Do not assume the headline figure becomes your permanent annual cost. Ask for the standalone renewal amount, VAT treatment and any reimbursement condition attached to a free domain before buying a hosting bundle.

The bundled value may still be good. The missing comparable renewal figure is why HostPinnacle does not rank higher.

7) Novahost offers another local, KeNIC-listed route

novahost safaricom alternatives
Explore various domain registration prices in Kenya.

Novahost’s domain page supports Kenyan and international extensions, domain-only registration, nameserver management and DNS records. KeNIC lists Novahost Kenya Ltd among licensed registrars.

Its page also explains that a domain included with hosting is free for the first year and renews at the normal price afterward. That distinction is useful because “free domain” rarely means free for the life of the website.

Best for: A buyer comparing local domain registration with a bundled hosting setup.

The limitation: The official domain page showed KSh 1,160 in its headline and KSh 1,180 in a nearby price card when checked.

It did not surface a clear .co.ke renewal price in the same decision area.

Twenty shillings will not decide most business purchases. The inconsistency matters because it tells you to verify the actual cart, renewal invoice and tax treatment before moving a valuable domain.

Safaricom may still be the better choice in three situations

An alternatives article should not turn the incumbent into a bad choice by default.

Stay with Safaricom when:

  • your current domain, hosting and email work and the renewal cost is acceptable;

  • your team prefers one familiar account and M-PESA workflow; or

  • moving the registrar creates more operational risk than the expected saving.

A transfer does not improve the website by itself. It changes which company manages the registration record, renewal and domain controls. You can also keep a domain at Safaricom and point its DNS to hosting elsewhere.

Move when a specific problem justifies it: unclear renewal costs, missing DNS access, difficult account ownership, slow transfer handling or the need to consolidate several domains.

If transfer is the reason for your search, follow our Safaricom domain transfer guide before changing nameservers or cancelling any hosting service.

Compare the three-year cost, not the promotional banner

A practical domain comparison uses this calculation:

three-year domain cost = registration + renewal in year two + renewal in year three + required add-ons

Price is only one part of the choice. A saving of a few hundred shillings does not compensate for a domain registered under the wrong owner, an inaccessible email address or a transfer process nobody in the business understands.

Keep ownership and transfer access inside the business

Whichever provider you choose, put the registrant name, email address and phone number under the business owner’s control.

Do not let a former developer, employee or agency hold the only login or receive the only renewal notice.

Before paying, confirm:

  • the legal registrant details;

  • access to DNS and nameservers;

  • the renewal date and standard renewal amount;

  • how to obtain an EPP or authorisation code when the extension uses one;

  • whether a transfer adds a year or charges a separate fee; and

  • who can approve account or contact changes.

Then enable renewal reminders and record the domain in the same asset register as your licences, payment accounts and key supplier contracts.

Our domain lifecycle guide explains why waiting until redemption can make recovery far more expensive than an ordinary renewal.

Choose the registrar that makes year two predictable

The best Safaricom Domains alternative is not automatically the company with the lowest number on its homepage.

Truehost ranks first for most Kenyan businesses because we combine KeNIC recognition, explicit lifecycle pricing, local buying options and a broad domain-management path, free premium offers that our customers actually need.

Hostraha is a strong second choice for buyers who want a clear public feature and renewal table.

HOSTAFRICA fits customers who prefer a larger regional provider, while Hostnali and Webhost Kenya offer comparatively simple annual pricing. HostPinnacle and Novahost make more sense after you verify the renewal terms behind their first-year or bundled offers.

If your current Safaricom domain works, compare the cost and controls before moving it. If you need a new name, search available domains with us and review the registration and renewal amounts side by side.

After registration, use our post-purchase domain checklist to secure the account, connect DNS, create business email and prepare the domain for a website.
