Choose by responsibility
The lowest price is not always the lowest workload. Match the route to your technical skills, application requirements, preferred server location and the amount of Linux administration your team can own.
For developers, system administrators and technical teams that want the lowest-cost route and can administer Linux.
For agencies, business websites and online services that want help managing the VPS layer.
For applications and organizations where a Kenya data-centre location matters more than choosing the cheapest plan.
Management included
Choose Managed Cloud for global infrastructure with help managing the VPS layer. It suits agencies, business sites and teams that want less day-to-day Linux administration; check each live plan for its control panel, access levels and exact management scope.

Built for growing workloads
VPS hosting gives growing websites and applications their own resource allocation and more control. If a small, low-traffic site does not need server access, shared hosting may still be the simpler choice.
Choose an allocation of virtual CPU, RAM and storage that is reserved for your virtual server.
On an unmanaged plan, install and configure the Linux stack your application requires.
Your VPS runs separately from other virtual servers, giving you more control than shared hosting.
Move to a plan with more resources as traffic, databases and application workloads grow.

Operating-system images vary by product. Optional backup, security, control-panel and networking tools are outlined below; confirm availability, compatibility and price during checkout.
What is a VPS used for?
A VPS gives you a persistent Linux environment for applications that need more control than shared hosting provides. Select the vCPU, RAM, storage, transfer, location and management level around the software you intend to run.
Start with a small deployment, monitor real resource usage and move to a larger plan as agents, users, workflows, databases or traffic grow.

A virtual private server is an isolated virtual machine created on a physical host. It receives an allocation of virtual CPU, RAM, storage and networking while running its own operating-system environment.
Unlike ordinary shared hosting, a VPS gives you server-level access and responsibility. You can install compatible software, configure services and host multiple workloads, but you must also plan security, updates, monitoring and backups unless the selected plan manages those tasks.
KVM means Kernel-based Virtual Machine. It is virtualization technology built into the Linux kernel that allows a physical server to run multiple isolated virtual machines.
Each KVM guest behaves like an independent server with its own virtual CPU, memory, disks, network interfaces and operating-system kernel. The hosting platform controls the physical hardware; you administer the guest environment according to the management level of your plan.
KVM does not provide unlimited performance. The vCPU, RAM, storage and transfer assigned to the selected VPS still determine its practical capacity.
A VM is the virtual server itself. KVM is one technology that a provider can use to create and run that virtual server. They describe different things, so “VM versus KVM” is not a direct product comparison.
| Term | Meaning | Simple analogy |
|---|---|---|
| VM | An isolated software-defined computer with virtual hardware and an operating system. | The individual apartment. |
| KVM | A Linux kernel virtualization technology used to create and operate VMs. | The building system that separates and supports the apartments. |
A VPS does not normally impose one universal website limit. The practical number depends on what each site consumes and whether your control-panel licence or application imposes its own account or domain limits.
| Capacity factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Traffic and caching | Uncached requests and traffic spikes consume more CPU and RAM. |
| CMS, themes and plugins | Complex WordPress or ecommerce stacks need more PHP workers and memory. |
| Databases | Large or busy databases increase memory and storage-I/O demand. |
| Email and control panels | These add background services, storage use and possible licence limits. |
| Backups, logs and media | They require storage capacity and can create temporary CPU or I/O peaks. |
Do not size the server for average usage alone. Leave capacity for traffic bursts, maintenance jobs, backups and future growth.
The Global VPS group currently provides the lowest entry-price route on this page. Managed Cloud adds server-management assistance, while Kenya Cloud VPS prioritizes a Kenya data-centre location.
Prices and discounts change with the selected billing cycle. Compare all three figures shown by the live table:
Do not rely on an old quoted VPS price. Select the intended cycle in the table and verify the resulting checkout total before paying.
An unmanaged VPS gives your team control of the server and responsibility for operating it. Managed Cloud reduces the Linux-administration workload, but the exact boundary depends on the selected plan.
| Responsibility | Unmanaged VPS | Managed Cloud |
|---|---|---|
| Linux setup and updates | Your team | Management assistance included |
| Application configuration | Your team | Usually your team; confirm scope |
| Firewall and hardening | Your team | Confirm the live plan’s coverage |
| Monitoring and backups | Your team unless purchased separately | Confirm inclusions, retention and restore support |
| Control panel | Install or license separately when compatible | Check the features listed by the plan |
Shared hosting is designed for convenience: many customer accounts use a managed hosting platform with limited server-level control. VPS hosting gives you an isolated server environment with greater freedom and greater operational responsibility.
| Consideration | Shared hosting | VPS hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Server access | Limited account-level access | Server-level access on unmanaged plans |
| Software | Use the platform’s supported stack | Install compatible services and applications |
| Administration | Hosting platform handles the server | You or the managed service handles the VPS |
| Best fit | Smaller sites needing simplicity | Custom applications, multiple services or growing workloads |
A VPS is a virtual machine running on shared physical hardware. A dedicated server assigns the complete physical machine to one customer.
Application architecture still matters: an oversized server cannot compensate for inefficient queries, missing caching, poor security or an unsuitable storage design.
Begin with the software vendor’s minimum requirements, then add headroom for the operating system, traffic spikes, background jobs and growth.
Choose the smallest plan that meets measured requirements with reasonable headroom. Monitor the workload after launch and scale from evidence rather than guessing far beyond current needs.
The plans in the Kenya Cloud VPS section list Kenya as their data-centre location. Choose this route when the physical hosting location is a project requirement rather than simply selecting the lowest price.
These plans are presented as unmanaged Linux VPS products, so your team remains responsible for configuration, security, updates, monitoring, applications and backups.
A Kenya data-centre location can support a data-location strategy, but legal compliance also depends on what data you collect, how it is processed, access controls, contracts and your wider system design.
The table displays an effective monthly rate: the total contract price divided across the months in that billing term. A longer commitment can therefore show a lower monthly equivalent while requiring a larger payment upfront.
Common VPS images may include Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Debian, Rocky Linux and Oracle Linux. Exact image and version availability varies by product and can change, so confirm it in the selected plan or checkout.
Choose a distribution supported by your application, control panel and administration team. Also check the release’s security-support lifetime before deploying a long-lived service.
Changing the server image may require a full reinstall. Maintain an independent, tested backup before rebuilding or replacing an operating system.
Yes. The domain can remain with its current registrar while its DNS records direct visitors to services running on the VPS.
DNS changes are not always immediate because resolvers may retain earlier records until their time-to-live expires.
Provisioning time depends on the selected product, payment confirmation, stock or capacity, automated deployment and any account or order review.
Wait for the activation status and credentials delivered through the client area or order email. After activation, allow additional time for operating-system updates, security hardening, application deployment, DNS and testing.
If a migration has a fixed deadline, confirm provisioning and access before changing DNS or shutting down the previous server.
Do not assume an add-on is included unless the selected live plan or checkout explicitly lists it. The customization section shows available examples for backup, security, control-panel, IP-address and setup options.
