For an ordinary direct .tz application, choose a label of at least three and no more than 63 characters. One- and two-character names are reserved for the registry’s allocation process. Use letters, numbers and permitted single hyphens; the registry’s published format is ASCII.

Use an ordinary eligible label

Use unaccented letters a–z in your business label.
Add digits when they are part of the name people know.
Place a single hyphen between words if it helps reading.
Keep an ordinary label within the 3–63-character range.

Avoid these spellings

Spaces and underscore characters are outside the published format.
A hyphen cannot occupy the opening or final position.
Two hyphens together do not meet the published naming conditions.
One- or two-character names require the reserved-name process.

Can I use .tz with my existing website?

Why can’t I register a two-letter .tz name?

One- and two-character labels are reserved for the registry’s allocation process.

The 2023 amendments allow TCRA to auction those names. They are not ordinary available names simply because no public website appears at the address. Choose a longer label for a normal registration request.

How do I transfer a .tz domain to Truehost?

Do not treat a still-working website as a renewal receipt. Once a name is released and registered by somebody else, your old invoice or website does not give you control of it.
