Configuring a Cron Job For WordPress

Cron jobs are software utilities scheduled to execute tasks on scripts after certain time intervals. Cron jobs are found on servers such as linux, unix and Mac servers. In WordPress virtual cron jobs may be used through wp-cron.php file instead of real cron jobs whenever the wordpress site is loaded. However they are not promising because schedules maybe missed and also the performance of a server can be affected in times of heavy traffic. This can only leave you with an option for disabling it and this is by;login to SSH in cpanel or file manager, public html and changing wp-cron.php file to true.

Real cronjobs that are not affected by traffic and run in fixed intervals can be configured in WordPress.

How?

  • Login to cpanel
  • Navigate to Advance header and click on Cron jobs

  • Update the email that should be receiving notifications once the cron task is performed.

  • Add a new cron job, time and on the command, include your username in Truehost account/public-html and click on the blue box to add it.
