Creating Nameservers for Tpanel VPS

A VPS allows a user (owner of a domain) to host their website files in their own server as opposed to shared hosting. This way, their registered domain links to the website files in their VPS by the help of nameservers. Therefore, hosting from a VPS requires that one creates their private nameservers.

This article outlines a simple step by step guide of how to create nameservers for Tpanel VPS.

Requirements

  1. A VPS with a Tpanel
  2. A registered domain name
  3. Client area to manage the domain name and its nameservers.

Step I

Upon purchasing a VPS, you will get a welcome message containing the server IP address, Tpanel username and password. Login to the Tpanel of your VPS using the provided link, username and password. Once you are logged in you may encounter a cpanel interface, where you can scroll to the domains section as shown below;

Click on the Domains Link to open the Tpanel Interface.

Step II

In the Tpanel Interface, a menu panel on the left will appear as follows;

Click on DNS to open options among them creating nameservers;

Step III

Click on the Link “Create Nameserver” to open an interface for creating nameservers

Step IV

Once the Interface for creating nameservers opens, enter your registered domain name such as truehost.co.ke. Enter your nameserver in a manner such as bs1.truehost.co.ke and finally enter the server IP address.

Create a second nameserver in the same way only that the second nameserver will bear a name such as bs2.truehost.co.ke

Create the nameservers by clicking on the Button below the page “Create Nameserver”

Once the private nameservers have been created in the VPS, one needs to register these nameservers in the client area for their domain name as shown in the following steps;

Step V

Login to your client area, navigate to your domain. By choosing the manage domain option, a menu to register private nameservers pops out;

Step VI

Proceed to input the nameservers you created in your VPS in step IV together with the IP address;

By inputting the first and second nameservers as created in step IV together with the server IP address and saving changes, your private nameservers will have been registered.

Linking Your Domain to the VPS

After creating and registering your private nameservers, the last step is to point your domain name to your VPS using these nameservers.

In the client area, navigate to your domain and click on nameservers;

Once you open the Nameservers link as shown above, an interface for choosing between default and custom nameservers appears. Choose to use custom nameserver and enter the nameserver you created in your VPS and save changes;

Once you change the nameservers, it is DONE, your domain is now linked to your VPS.
